“Research tells us (Snyder 2007) that the most effective presentations will always do this one thing – solve problems. This is the key to a successful presentation.
Presentation coach and author Dr. Andrew Abela has written “if you are trying to persuade your audience to take action – if you are trying to sell your ideas” then “focus on solving your audience’s problem.”
What makes this presentation strategy so effective? First, if your content is all about solving the prospect’s problems than your content will always be completely relevant to them. Next, if your content is all about solving their problems you are proving the value of your solution to the prospect (and you’re proving it in a way that separates you from all the people who are talking about their capabilities).” [Robert Ferrucci]
The next time you have to do a presentation, take time to put yourself in the audience’s shoes — What do they want or need to hear from you? What problems are they worrying about or wanting solutions to? When they walk away, what is the value they have gotten from spending time with you?
Time is measured in minutes but value is measured and felt by the heart!
