After teaching and studying the Enneagram for 30-plus years, I’ve come to realize the gifts we gain from the core of each Enneagram type. Here’s a taste of the many gifts as I see them for our Body types (9 8,1).

Type 9

  • Nines remind us of the value of oneness and that we are an integral part of the whole, that kindness and the desire to come together are essential for effective teamwork.
  • Their focus on maintaining harmony is helpful to the well-being of the group.
  • The avoidance of conflict often creates or escalates more conflict. There’s a transformation within anger. And there’s growth within a bit of tussle.

Type 8

  • Eights show us anger is a vital life force that, when channeled using the appropriate amount of energy, can catalyze positive change.
  • Personal power is a continuum, and various types of power are at play in many situations.
  • Knowing where people stand provides helpful clarity and connection.
  • There is a beauty in protecting innocence.
  • Taking action against injustice may be necessary at times.

Type 1

  • Ones demonstrate that paying attention to the need for improvement defines how to make things better.
  • Sharing responsibility lightens the load.
  • Being right is subjective – there is more than one right way.
  • We don’t need to be right to be loved.
  • Reminds us that self-awareness and self-acceptance go hand in hand.

I’ll be blogging about the Head and Heart types soon.
