We asked our client, Jason Fabio, CR, President of ISPIRI a custom home and remodeling company in Minnesota, to respond to this hot topic and here is his response…

I have learned from experience that our company’s culture is one of the most important things I can invest my time in as the President. It is a critical piece in achieving our company vision, mission and goals. It is something that cannot be ignored. If ignored, it will change in an instant but will take years to correct. It needs to be nurtured daily and corrected swiftly when it gets off course. It is a living and dynamic part of the business and it does not remain stagnant. It is constantly changing – either for the better or for the worse. It will not correct itself. It takes leadership and, more importantly, support from each member of our team to hold each other accountable.

A vibrant culture is present when everyone is living out our company values – all pulling in the same direction.

Our company culture is essentially our company values: how we treat our clients, how we treat each other, and how we collectively see the world. A healthy and vibrant culture will allow us to achieve our vision. We can strategize all day long, but if we don’t have people who can effectively implement our strategy, we will never get any traction. Implementing our strategy takes teamwork. Teamwork requires a vibrant culture. A vibrant culture is present when everyone is living out our company values – all pulling in the same direction.

Each company has its own culture and many different cultures can be effective – so long as the people hired into the organization believe in and adopt the desired culture, for Ispiri, our company values. This gets determined in the hiring process, and it is what we call a “good fit.” We will hire a “good fit” with our culture over the most skillful candidate who does not fit every time. We can teach skill. We don’t want to have to teach individual core values that are not present. Those need to align on Day One.
