“Between the stimulus and the response there is a space and in that space lies our power and our freedom.”  Tara Brach

Are you aware of the space between? It might be the space between a colleague’s comment about our work and our response to that comment or it might be when a client calls with an issue or complaint that stems from the client’s need to place blame on you or your Company and our initial response to that complaint.  Either way, it can feel like a full time job to allow our attention to rest there, that is, pause. for just a few moments.

What the quote suggests is that in a moment of pause is where our power and our freedom live.  So often our response is automatic that we don’t notice the space or give time for the pause. Sometimes the space can feel frightening, what if I don’t react… what will happen then?  Whatever the reason for avoiding the pause, what is missed is the opportunity to give space to ourselves and make a conscious choice for our response.  What keeps you from pausing and giving space between a stimulus and your response?

That’s the question of the week.. let us know what happens when you do.
