In a recent blog, The Audio Cure, by Seth Godin, he offered a summer listening list. Yes, I said listening!
I have loved listening to audio books but find that not as many people use this vehicle to learn as in the past. With Nooks and Kindles and e-readers now in vogue, the art of listening to books on tape seems like a “oldie” on its way out. But wait … Godin suggested there’s a hidden skill that can be developed by listening to books on tape. Think about it … if you can listen to an audio book, not only are you learning something new but you are developing your listening skills! He suggests doing 20 minutes of audio listening a day as the way to develop better listening skills.
That makes a lot of sense to me. The art of listening is a learned skilled that is only honed by listening … if you don’t do it enough, you lose the skill; if you don’t practice, you’ll never master it. So where do you get these audio books? My favorite site is www.audible.com. Books are inexpensive, can be downloaded to ITunes or easily copied onto CDs for your car.
Click here to access the Summer Listening List or go direct to an audio book site and download a book. Invest 20-minute a day listening and we guarantee you’ll be on your way to mastering your listening skills!
